Lady dies during buttock enlargement surgery in Lagos

A 36-year-old woman identified only as Abiola, has been confirmed dead while undergoing a buttock enlargement procedure at a clinic in the Lekki-Phase 1 area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that the incident occurred around 3 pm on Monday.

PUNCH Metro reports that a buttock enlargement procedure, commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift, is a cosmetic surgery that involves removing fat from other parts of the body and injecting it into the buttocks to achieve a rounder and fuller shape.

A police source, who requested to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the incident, told our correspondent that the woman had left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ibeju Lekki area of the state, and instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the operation.

Upon arrival at the clinic, our correspondent learnt that the clinic owner instructed a nurse to administer an injection to the young woman.

However, shortly after receiving the injection, it was gathered that Abiola reportedly lost consciousness and began gasping for breath.

To address the situation and prevent further complications, the deceased was rushed to a hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where she was confirmed dead.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, noting that a suspect linked to the crime was arrested on Tuesday.

Hundeyin said, “The private driver of the deceased reported the incident to the Maroko division. Our officers visited the scene and the body was sent to a public morgue for an autopsy. The nurse who injected the deceased has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.”
